What are the key recommendations?

The plan's recommendations are based on a vision "to create a livable and memorable Center City of distinct neighborhoods connected by unique infrastructure."

Make Center City Charlotte more livable by planning for neighborhood stores and services, open spaces, schools, and a wider range of housing options.

Make Center City memorable and easily recognizable by emphasizing bold, ambitious moves such as capping the I-277 freeway loop.

Support the uniqueness of existing neighborhoods, but also recognize the value in distinct neighborhoods such as a sports and entertainment district.

Achieving the VisionTen priorities were recommended to be completed in the next decade:

The "Livable" Critical Step: A Mix of Uses in Center City
[1] Build at least 6,000 new residential units for a variety of densities and income levels.

[2] Redevelop the former convention center as a mixed-use facility.

[3] Issue an RFP for the redevelopment of more than 18 acres of land on North Tryon Street into a new urban village.

The "Memorable" Critical Step: A Connected Parks System
[4] Acquire land for a new, large central park.

[5] Build a linear, recreational park adjacent to the I-277 freeway.

[6] Redesign Second, Ninth, Poplar and Davidson streets as pedestrian-friendly "green streets."

The "Distinct Neighborhoods" Critical Step: Unique Center City Neighborhoods
[7] Consolidate government uses in the proposed government district neighborhood.

[8] Prepare a master plan for the redevelopment of Second Ward into a neighborhood.

[9] Encourage development around a reclaimed Little Sugar Creek.

[10]Prepare a master plan for a sports and entertainment district.
