Need Your Help!
Public input is critical to the plan's success. What citizens have to
say about how the Center City should be designed is key to making sure
the 2010 Plan reflects the unique character that is Charlotte.
At the Public Hearing, citizens are able to voice their opinions about
plan recommendations to the City Council and County Commission.
Past Meetings:
Public Hearing
April 18, 2000
Community Workshop 3
October 7, 1999
This meeting was an opportunity for the community to review the 2010
Team's final recommendations for the master plan. The team prepared
the Final Draft Plan for the City Council and County Commission to consider
for adoption as official policy in May 2000.
Community Workshop 2
June 29, 1999
Surrounded by tents and colorful maps, more than 225 Charlotteans met
to plan for the Center City's future. In the room you could hear laughter
and argument, wild suggestions and practical opinions. At this workshop,
held at the Charlotte Convention Center, the consultant team explained
their ideas and specific recommendations for downtown design and development.
Some recommendations included; the creation of new parks, a special
pedestrian-friendly zone, satellite parking, as well as locations for
educational, sports, and arts and cultural facilities.
Community Workshop 1
March 30, 1999
On March 30, people, just like you, gathered at the Government Center
for the first 2010 Plan Community Workshop; you may have seen or heard
about the workshop on local TV stations as well as the Charlotte Observer.
Those present had a chance to share their ideas in roundtable discussions
with other members of the community.
The highlight of the evening occured when people participated in a spin-off
of everyones favorite game, Monopoly. Groups weighed in on questions
such as - What types of leisure activities would bring you to the Center
City? What makes an area a Center City? or Where would you
locate a business in Center City Charlotte? They were even able to take
their ideas a step further and decide where new facilities should be
built. Fun was had by everyone who attended!
