blank What is the Center City 2010 Plan? The 2010 Plan is a master plan to guide future decisions regarding transportation, parks and plazas, building uses, growth issues, entertainment and sports facilities, retail, housing and other aspects of Center City design and development. It recommends how the Center City should be designed and developed into a more inviting place to live, work, shop and have fun.A number of plans have been developed for Charlotte's Center City over the past 30 years, progressively guiding the area's growth and development. For instance, the last planning effort undertaken in 1990, outlined the vision that guided the steady growth and development which has occurred in the Center City over the past 10 years. New office towers, Ericsson Stadium, restaurants, housing and other developments have come to central Charlotte. Building on past planning efforts, the 2010 Plan redefines the vision for the region's center of commerce and outlines what efforts should be undertaken to ensure its livability and viability in the coming decade. WHY did we produce a plan?
HOW did the 2010 Plan involve the people of Charlotte? Public input was critical to the project's success. The mission was to provide a clear and compelling design and development vision for our City's urban core. What citizens said about how the Center City and its surrounding neighborhoods should grow was key to developing a plan that reflects the unique character that defines Charlotte. |
